The people from this prison give me so much hope. They have it so right. They are turning their lives around. They aren’t just saying the salvation prayer and then going back to regular life. It’s inspiring. They are understanding what Jesus meant when He said “reborn.” They BELIEVE that God put them in prison for a reason, and they are living it out. They want more of God. They are thirsty for Him and are realizing that they need Him.
Whoever drinks the water I give him
will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a
spring of water welling up to eternal life. -John 4:14
This is the street side of the prison.
Claire and I embracing our American-ness and took a picture in front of the giant tri-palm tree in front of the prison.
The prayer that Viente wants me to lift up is that the judge would give him a sentence. In Mozambique the people get thrown into jail with no questions asked. It takes months, maybe years, for them to receive a sentence…which is usually 7 years. I saw him last on Tuesday, and he had been in the prison for 3 months and 10 days (yes, he counted). It’s not as bad as a lot of the men there, but I ask that you would be praying for them also. One of our last times preaching at the prison we had the +90 men and women write down prayer requests on paper and give it to them. We received some interesting ones, where a lady said how she wants to kill her husband, but then we had some deep prayer requests, like pray for my wife and children. Mozambican prison is not like American prison. You don’t get that “one phone call’ and you don’t get the same sort of cell or the same sort of diet. There are are over 90 men and women, and 3 rooms, do the math. Their cells are the size of an average bedroom and there are no beds. There aren’t even bamboo mats. Their diet is a spoon full of pap once a day (pap=cornmeal=not much nutritional value). But despite all this, they have such joy! Let’s just say that joy is not from their living conditions, it is from someONE much greater.
Amazing ministry Cait. Wow! I’d love to hear what God is saying to you as you pray for these prisoner’s requests.
